I have had excellent results with PMGS Stamp Fix. It separates and straightens images. Free software.

I've tried to love the PMGS Stamp Fix, and tried many times. I can only assume that I'm doing something wrong.
It seems that stamps need to be roughly the same size and well separated on the sheet. It doesn't seem to cope with pairs or blocks either. I've ended up going back to individual scanning
Dave,
I have found that images do need to be well separated. A black background works best.
I haven't had occasion to scan blocks or pairs, so I decided to try a test. I also included a large and small stamp. Here is the input scan:

Here are the output files:
Note the images have been deskewed and nicely cropped.

As suspected it's operator error then! I'll try again
What threshold and what DPI did you use for that scan Harry? I used a very crowded image I had taken at 600dpi and a threshold of 50, and got great results, so it seems like the threshold is the key
Thank you very much hfbaker for the software link. I’ve just tested it and it’s great — it helps me save a lot of time. Well done!
I am "old school" ! I scan an entire page of single stamps using my printer/scanner software using a black background. I then use the old "FREE" PAINT software that comes with Microsoft Windows to select the stamps off the page one by one and save each stamp as a JPG That is how I post my listings in HIPSTAMP. I can re-size as needed using PAINT but normaly I do not need to do any re-sizing. A couple of years ago I downloaded an older version of PAINT because the newer version was not as good in my opinion..
Dave,
I used a threshhold of 100 (I think that is the default) and my scans were at 400 dpi.
Thanks Harry
